News February 2018

The first two CDs performed by "David Stanhope and His Orchestra" are being processed now and should arrive within the next fortnight. The official release date has not yet been set, but I am hoping that it will be held in Melbourne. As two of the symphonies on the "Australian Premières" CD are by Melbourne-based composers, that seems appropriate.

I am preparing the ground for recording my opera Dracula later this year, and have managed to interest a number of top singers for it. If all goes well, a release in late 2019 is quite possible. As I consider this opera my most important work, it will be a significant milestone for me. It may be the first recording of its kind - a new opera premièred with a digital orchestra such as mine.

For some completely different news, yesterday I managed to catch a feral cat that had been terrorising the local fauna around the creek that runs alongside my property. I did not drown it in the creek, but took it to the Moss Vale animal shelter. The wood ducks will no doubt be most relieved.

David Stanhope is a free-lance conductor with wide experience in orchestral, opera, chamber and film music. He is a composer, especially for wind band, with many publications. As an instrumentalist, David Stanhope was a french horn player for many years before switching to bass trombone; he is also a virtuoso pianist.
